Networks: Ethics Network

The EASA Ethics Network, currently chaired by Peter Pels (Leiden) was founded by a workshop at the 1996 Barcelona conference. Members agreed that many current debates unduly emphasized the institutionalization of ethics into the form of (semi-) professional codes of conduct with their attendant procedures for peer reviews, but under-emphasized the constant renegotiation and re-contextualization of ethical thinking and standards. These, however, should be the hallmarks of antropological analysis. Since then, the Ethics Network has become both a think-tank to advance ethical debates and also an advisory body to whom the EASA Executive Committee can turn when in need of advice.
