4th MedNet Scientific Workshop
Reflecting Anthropological Fieldwork in the Mediterranean Area
27 - 29 October 2011, Ca’ Foscari University, Venice

After two successful inter-conference scientific meetings at Catania (2007) and Athens (2009) and a workshop held during the EASA 2010 Maynooth conference, the forthcoming 4th scientific workshop of the EASA Mediterraneanist network (MedNet), organised in cooperation with the Ca’Foscari University of Venice and chaired by the conveners of MedNet, will bring together members of EASA’s Mediterraneanist network in an open forum to evaluate recent research along with scholars from the host university, with the goal of deepening the cooperation between anthropologists doing fieldwork in the Mediterranean area.

The workshop will be dedicated to the theme:

Reflecting Anthropological Fieldwork in the Mediterranean Area

The workshop sessions will focus on the following aspects, understood in a broad sense:

A.  Recent research in the Mediterranean area: challenges and obstacles.

B.  Doing fieldwork in the Mediterranean area: reflections on reflexivity.

C.  Historical dimensions of anthropological research in the Mediterranean area: research reconsidered.

Since the EASA Executive Committee intend to make a certain amount of financial support for network activities available in 2011, the MedNet conveners will request such funding (covering travel costs for EASA members only) for those workshop participants interested in applying. Therefore, if you are interested in EASA travel funding, please include along with your workshop paper proposal an informal application including a short CV with your 5 most important publications and the amount requested for your travel expenses to Venice.

The call for paper for the 4th MedNet workshop closed on 31 January 2011.
