Second scientific workshop of the EASA Mediterraneanists Network
Emerging Perspectives in the Anthropology of the Mediterranean Area
Athens, 5 – 7 November, 2009
 
MedNet, the Mediterraneanists Network of EASA, will hold its second scientific workshop in Athens from 5 to 7 November, 2009. The aim of the workshop, with the general title "Emerging Perspectives in the Anthropology of the Mediterranean Area ", is to organize an open forum where MedNet members can present aspects of their ongoing research projects related to the Mediterranean area. A second aim is to intensify the growing communication structure between network members which was established during past MedNet meetings and at the very successful first MedNet workshop held at Catania, Sicily in November 2007.
 
The themes of this second workshop will very much depend on the interests of MedNet members and on your response to this call for papers. The idea is to allow room for a broad spectrum of research subjects and to encourage a review of the state of the art of anthropological research of the Mediterranean area.
 
This second MedNet meeting will be held in cooperation with the French School of Athens which will provide its pleasant venue for the planned meeting. A limited number of guest rooms will be available for early career scholars at the hostel of the French School of Athens. For other participants a special arrangement at a nearby hotel will be available. In addition to the workshop meetings on Thursday and Friday (5 and 6 November), an excursion is planned on Saturday, 7 November, in cooperation with the French School of Athens, to the excavation and museum of ancient Delphi. For those workshop participants staying in Athens on Sunday, 8 November, there will be the possibility of a guided walking tour of central Athens and the old town during the morning.
 
Those attending the meeting will have to be active (i.e., paid up) members of EASA and prepared to become members of MedNet (at no extra cost!).
