Networks: Visual Anthropology Network

The members of the network aim to undertake the following activites:

  • The organisation of national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, film screenings, and exhibitions
    Further information: Working Images
  • Teaching Visual Anthropology: Where, what, when, how?
  • Summer schools and other short courses and workshops in visual anthropology
  • To prepare publications both to disseminate our own work and to further the academic status of visual anthropology internationally. Publications will include: conference papers; text books and materials for university teaching and for use on our own courses
  • Establish databases and resource sites.

We have a regular network meeting at EASA conferences. Additionally, please submit workshops and papers to the conference yourself. Coordinating Anthropological Film Festivals in Europe (CAFFE) will organise film screenings during the EASA conference. We also meet at the anthropological film festivals in Europe.

We have been successful in securing funding for our events and have initiated a series of activities including:
2001 - 'Working Images Conference', Museu de etnologia, Lisbon
Publications: 'Visual teaching, Virtual Learning' (2002) and 'Working Images' (2003)
2002 - 'Innovations in visual anthropology' panel at EASA Conference, Copenhagen
2005 - ‘Frontiers of Visual Anthropology’, at the RAI Film Festival, Oxford
