The Man who Loved Books / Screening at the RAI / 10-1-2018

Dear all,

we are pleased to invite you to the screening of the documentary film *The
man who loved books. A homage to JR Llobera*, which will be held at the
Royal Anthropological Institute on the 10th of January 2018 at 5.30pm.

This is one of the rare films about anthropologists and about anthropology
as a scientific discipline. *The man who loved books *introduces the life
and work of the anthropologist Josep Ramon Llobera (1939–2010). Of Catalan
origin, Llobera spent most of his life in his beloved Bloomsbury. He was
one of the founders of the journal *Critique of Anthropology *and an active
member of the department of Anthropology of the UCL. Through the testimony
of those who knew him (friends, family and colleagues), excerpts from his
writings and rich archival material, *The Man Who Loved Books* constitutes
a sensitve and multi-vocal portrait of a man and his time; a man for whom
learning and conveying knowledge through books became a way of living and
of engaging with the world. It is, above all, a film about friendship and
about the love for anthropology and social sciences in general.
