A Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA) e o Núcleo de Antropologia Visual e da Arte (NAVA) do Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA) irão organizar em Lisboa entre 8 e 11 de outubro de 2020 a 40ª Edição Festival Internacional de Cinema Etnográfico NAFA. A Nordic Anthropological Film Association é uma organização criada em meados dos anos 1970 que se dedica à cooperação e divulgação da produção cinematográfica na área da antropologia e do documentário. Para além de um extenso arquivo fílmico e da edição do Journal of Anthropological Film (JAF ) e da NAFA/CVA Newsletter , é responsável pela organização de um dos mais antigos e prestigiados festivais de cinema na área, juntando anualmente realizadores de várias nacionalidades que apresentam os seus filmes sobre diferentes contextos culturais. Este evento promove uma plataforma e oportunidade de reflexão sobre as grandes questões mundiais no âmbito da diversidade cultural, dos direitos humanos, da ecologia e do património imaterial e material, entre outras valências.
A edição 2020 do Festival NAFA em Lisboa celebra uma longa relação de troca mútua de experiências entre cientistas sociais e realizadores na área da antropologia visual, utilizando este ano a vibrante e criativa plataforma de investigadores que se têm dedicado à antropologia visual a partir de Portugal. O evento terá lugar no Museu Nacional de Etnologia, cujo acolhimento é uma forma de cruzar olhares e reflexões sobre a relação desta instituição com a produção visual e os seus arquivos.

The Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA) and the Visual Anthropology and Arts Laboratory (NAVA) of the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) will organise the 40th NAFA International Ethnographic Film Festival in Lisbon between the 8th and 11th October 2020. NAFA was founded in the mid-1970s and is dedicated to ethnographic film and visual anthropology, stimulating both the production and distribution of films. In addition to an extensive film archive and the publishing of the joint NAFA/CVA Newsletter as well as the Journal of Anthropological Film (JAF ), NAFA organises one of the oldest and most prestigious ethnographic film festivals, bringing together directors from all over the world to present their films about different cultural contexts. This event provides a platform and opportunity for reflecting on major world issues in the context of cultural diversity, human rights, ecology, and intangible and tangible heritage, among other topics.
The 2020 edition of the NAFA Film Festival in Lisbon will enable the celebration of a long relationship of mutual exchange of experiences between social scientists and filmmakers in the field of visual anthropology. Using the vibrant and creative platform of researchers who have been dedicated to this field in Portugal, the event will take place at the National Museum of Ethnology. There, the participants will be able to discuss and reflect on the relationship of this institution with visual production and its archives.
