ROADS/ROUTES
This season EthnoKino starts from the concrete: the poetics and politics of roads and, in broader terms, the routes they pave, enable or obstruct.
👉 Roads produce possibilities. When they are impaired by fences and gates, the basic human right of following one’s route is denied: 20.2. Between Two Crossings: From Gaza to Europe
👉 Roads can take on many forms: as railways, they become infrastructural networks that enable social and technological transformation: 3.3. EthnoKino: The Iron Ministry
👉 4.3. Masters in Bern: Field Recording with Reto Stamm
- an award-winning sound designer Reto Stamm
will give practical and theoretical inputs in a day-long workshop. Call for Participation.
👉 Yet, unavoidably, roads are the result of uprooting, of the remodelling of landscapes through human labour: 19.3. EthnoKino: Earth
👉 2.4. EthnoKino Shorts
is dedicated to the work of young filmmakers. An Expert Jury // Call for Submission.
👉 Of the remodelling that sometimes becomes a symbol of human folly, a monumental reminder that roads can be a tool of conquest and invasion: 14.4. EthnoKino: Suspension
👉 30.4. EthnoKino: Vision Talks
- engaged anthropologists and social entrepreneurs meet to present ground-breaking projects.
👉 In the end, roads also mean the pathways one can get on, in order to reclaim the homeland that has been taken: 7.5. EthnoKino: Rituals of Resistance
🌎 We dedicate this season to the iron and concrete, and to those who walk the roads but end among the displaced.
